Classroom Website

So... I really like the idea of each classroom having their own website. I think that it is a very convenient way for parent's to stay updated on school news or even check their child's grades. With that being said, I seem to be having a difficult time setting mine up! I was really excited about this project and thought that I would have fun doing it....but so far it has been a headache!! Oh well, I guess I better figure it out quick, becuase the due date is fastly approaching and I need to know how to do all this for my future classroom anyway! J I hope everyone else's is going good!

I LOVE the Portaportal

I have heard of using a portaportal before, and I thought they sounded really neat. After making one, I have decided that these things are great!! I really love the idea of them and I have always wanted to create one because I am constantly losing pieces of paper that I wrote down a website on from class or I accidentally delete an e-mail that a friend sends me with an important link; so needless to say I am excited that I finally had to take the time to sit down and make one. Unfortunately, I am a big goof and I misread the directions which made this assignment much more difficult than it ever should have been, but with all that being said, it just allowed me to explore the depths of a portaportal…..lol J

Revised Opinion About Blogging in the Classroom

Okay, so I have changed my opinion about blogging in the elementary classrooms! I have began reading The First Days of School by Harry & Rosemary Wong; I saw in one of the chapters where they were talking about  using a blog for your class. The book stated "you can choose whether you want to accept comments at your blog site or use it as a one-way street of communication." I really like the idea of making that call yourself as the teacher. I mean I think it some cases it would be appropriate and in some others it wouldn't. I guess it all depends on your class & what the blog is actually about! I shouldn't have been so quick to judge :)

First Time Blogger!

This is my very first blog! So far so good... I hope to learn more about blogging from this class, because as of now I only know the basics. As a future teacher I think it would be great for the school to have a blog that is accessible for all of the faculty to keep in touch. I also think that it could possibly be used in the upper grade levels, I'm still not so sure if it would be the right thing to incorporate in the lower grades...but hey who knows, my opinion could change over the course of this semester! I hope to explore many possibilites when it comes to using technology in the elementary classroom.
